The annual Help Kids Grow Up (HKGU) Charity Golf Tournament supports initiative helping children in need within the Ottawa region and in the sub-Saharan region of Africa. The two charities that the tournament provides funds to are Variety of Ottawa and the Canadian Foundation for Children with Aids. These two not-for-profit organizations decided in 2010 to join forces to establish a premier annual golf event that would bring together businesses from across Ottawa that are committed to help children in need.
The 2018 9th annual Golf Tournament will happen on Tuesday, July 10th at the Eagle Creek Golf Club. We expect to have a sold-out event and support from over 70 corporate sponsors. Visit the sponsor section for the list of sponsors by sponsor tier, from 2017 tournament, and the registration section of the HKGU site to get information about sponsorship opportunities for 2018.
Last year’s 2017 tournament received tremendous support from 79 sponsors, including several organizations that have supported the tournament every year. GAL Power continued its role as the “Diamond” Presenting Sponsor, Eaton and WESCO stepped in as the platinum dinner sponsor, with several other returning gold sponsors including: Vibra-Sil (Gold Breakfast Sponsor), CIBC (Gold Lunch Sponsor), OBJ (Gold Media Sponsor), Jim Peplinski Leasing (Gold Networking Event Sponsor) and DCT (Gold Wine Sponsor). The tournament also attracted 17 silver sponsors who supported HKGU tournament fundraising events, our tournament day on-course events and and prizes for tournament participants.
Through the tremendous support of all of 2017 event sponsors over $80,000 in total cash and “convertible” prize donations were passed on to the 2 charities in 2017. This brings our 8 year total to over $425,000 in net donations (after yearly event costs are subtracted); which provides funding for critical children health programs.
With the proceeds from the 2014 – 2017 tournaments, Variety of Ottawa was able to establish a commitment with CHEO to fund $100,000 over a 4 year period towards the cost for a new heart and lung machine. Variety of Ottawa has also expanded it’s partnership with the Children’s Wish Foundation. CFCA continues to use their share of the net proceeds to significantly expand sustainable food programs (livestock and greenhouse) within the sub-Saharan region of Africa, which has been decimated by the impact of the AIDS virus. These programs are now supporting over 33,000 families!

For this year’s 2018 HKGU tournament, scheduled for Tuesday, July 10th, 2018 (10am shotgun start), our goal is to raise over $100,000 in donations, and net over $90,000 in net proceeds for the 2 charities. We expect to sell out the tournament for the 8th straight year! We would like to thank all of our sponsors for their continued support. Hope you participate in HKGU fundraising events this spring and summer so we can continue to expand our programs for children in need, in Ottawa and in Africa!
